I along with many friends, family and those that knew him only on the web and in mailing lists, mourn the loss of a really, knowledgeable and friendly man. His name was Sheldon Brown. I suppose, in a lot of ways, many of us celebrate the life that he had as well.
Here is the announcement from his website –
Sheldon Brown: 1944 – 2008
Dear Harris Cyclery friends and customers,
It is with heavy hearts that we convey to you the news that Sheldon Brown has passed away. Our thoughts go out to his family at this time. The cycling community has lost one of its most passionate members.
Thank you all for your condolences and remembrances of Sheldon.
There will be a memorial service in early March. Details will be posted as available.
I never met the man and we only traded emails and verbal ribbing a few times on various email lists that I participate. However, I can’t tell you how many times that I accessed his virtual fount of knowledge regarding bicycles.
He’d not been well for quite awhile but never did I see a message from him complaining of his illness. He was a seemingly very happy man and very proud of his family.
There’s not much else for me to say but Goodbye Sheldon, Rest In Peace. You’ll be missed and remembered by many for a very long time.
